Elaine received the Fra Angelico Award at Great Bend Kansas in July 2015. A Dominican Sister for 65 years, I’ve been a member of the Dominican Institute for the Arts for almost all of its existence. I guess I’ve always been an artist, but I was in my 50’s when I developed my God-given skills of oil painting and acting. How great a blessing this has been! She was graphic layout person for the newsletter for many years.
I have had a part in four plays, my favorite being “Elaine the maid” in The Importance of Being Ernest. I have also performed as Mary Magdalen, St. Catharine of Siena, St. Teresa of Calcutta, and Mother Angela Sansbury in one-woman shows.
I began studying oil painting in 1985 at the South Bend Regional Museum School of Art. Because they were so enjoyable, I continued taking classes for 20 years! Upon my retirement to the mother house of the Dominican Sisters of Peace in St. Catharine, KY, I began painting, among other subjects, local architecture.
Twelve of my works, scenes of downtown Main Street in Springfield, KY are on permanent exhibit in the Opera House, the Visitors’ Center. Ten paintings of academic buildings of St. Catharine College are in the Emily W. Hundley Library of the College. At present I am completing painted versions of the mother houses of the eight former congregations of the Dominican Sisters of Peace in six states.
These and my other paintings may be seen on my website < paintingsbyEDesRosiers.com. >.
